Schnauzers — Focus on Miniature Schnauzers

Adorable and Cute Baby Miniature Schnauzer Puppy Dog on WhiteMiniature schnauzers are smart, sweet and likable little dogs. These dogs are often referred to as a delightful dog breed and a companion who is a joy to have around the home. These dogs have the reputation for being very friendly and  pleasant.

These are a perfect dog to have around the house regardless of the size or style of household that you have. This breed is though to have originated from a cross between Affenpinscher and the standard schnauzer, with some poodle also mixed into it somewhere.

It is thought that the breed descended from the Germans due to the word "schnauze," which is the German word for muzzle. This breed of dog is intelligent, with a loyal personality, which makes them dependable companions.

Miniature schnauzers are classed as a small breed. They  have characteristic eyebrows, moustache and beard.  The eyebrows that are on this breed are very prominent and make you smile when you look at them. This breed tends to be groomed in such a manner that the moustache and the beard are prominent. Miniature schnauzers tend to have a long silky coat which can have a bit of curly look to it. This coat this breed has comes in a range of colours including black and silver, all white and also black. Grooming is relatively easy, and schnauzers are a breed that does not shed, making them better pets for people with allergies.

A perky and happy little breed, these dogs commonly have a personality which is smart, obedient and energetic. There is an increasing number of people that think of their pets as being their children and this breed will fit perfectly into the role. If you would prefer to get a breed of dog that travels well and is suitable for obedience training then look no further than this mini breed. This dog breed also makes a fantastic companion and therefore it is a fun family member to have. This breed like every other breed does have its negative points as well. This breed tends to have one major behaviour problem which is its desire to want to be a large dog. That is, the miniature schnauzer is not at all intimidated by his small size -- he rules the people and the other pets unless you take charge of the dynamics in the home.

If you have one of these little dynamos of a dog, its very important to socialize it from a young age. It is also very important to firmly establish yourself as the pack leader. Its not actually uncommon for some members of this dog breed to develop some tendencies that are aggressive. This dog breed should be be well-socialized with people, other dogs, and pets through its puppy stages as this makes them a more balanced companion animal.

It is common for this breed to have a loud sharp bark and commonly bark quite a lot, especially when excited. The bark can be ear-piercing sometimes, with a high pitched yappy sound. But, giving your dog a job (schnauzers are rodent hunters by instinct) such as chasing balls or toys that you throw, having a safe fenced in yard to explore, and a sense of security at home can cut down on the barking.

Schnauzers can be prone to kidney stones, diabetes, and pancreatitis, so it is essential to have your veterinarian check out any dog or puppy you are considering bringing into your life before you fall in love (if that's possible). Make sure to get a puppy or dog from a responsible breeder who can show you the health histories of the parents - or preferably, get a schnauzer from one of the many rescue groups in your area (or even in your country). A foster parent can tell you a lot about what you might be getting - sometimes more so than a breeder can about a young puppy (and rescuing dogs saves lives).

Best of all, get ready for a wonderful companion to welcome you home, play with, and love you...schnauzer lovers all know what that means.
